Why we deliver First Aid for Mental Health courses is for a number of reasons, but the main one is to initially preserve that person’s life.

I always explain that it is not just their physical life that we want to preserve, it is more than that, much more .. It is their families’ lives, their friends’ lives and those of anyone else connected to them.

The course always starts with an explanation as to what the difference is between mental health, and mental illness. We also address the subject of stigmas, and unconscious bias, as we can hold beliefs and fears on certain mental health subjects which leads to people not wanting to talk or discuss on this subject.

We discuss the different mental health conditions of anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD, schizophrenia, personality disorders, bi polar, eating disorders, as well as self harm, addiction and suicide.

What we as tutors want to do with our years of experience between us, is explain this subject in a way that takes away the fear and gives the individual confidence to have that potentially difficult situation.

Our courses run over 4 hours for the Level1 Awareness, 1 full day for the Level 2 in First Aid for Mental Health and 2 days for the Level 3 Supervising First Aid for Mental Health.
